The lovely people at CytoSport responded to an email I sent them asking if I could try a few of their pre-workout supplements before I bought them. The next day I received an email asking which products I’d like to try. A week later I was shipped trial packets of CytoSport Fast Twitch, CytoMax, Monster Pump and Muscle Milk. Here is my review of CytoSport Fast Twitch. My reviews of CytoMax and Monster Pump will follow in the next week.
Per 2.04 lb tub of Fast Twitch, you get:
- 40 servings
- 200 mg caffeine/serving
- 0 fat, cholesterol and sugar
- 15 carbs
- Some vitamins
- A hell of a lot of proprietary blends
I had the Power Punch flavor, and I liked the taste. Very sweet, but all pre-workout supplements are. No complaints here.
Here is where Fast Twitch failed me, and it failed miserably. The package says Fast Twitch provides:
- Explosive strength performance
- Total body pumps
- Protect lean muscle
- Enhance metabolic rate
I didn’t feel any of that. I was too busy feeling dizzy and weak. I had no energy and no focus. A slight headache accompanied my entire workout and I felt like the strength was zapped from me. When I don’t take a pre-workout supplement (90% of the time), I never feel like this. Sure, I’ve had my share of bad workouts, but this was very difficult to power through, so I decided to cut my workout short.
I followed the instructions just as the packet says:
“Mix one packet Fast Twitch in 16 oz. of water. Drink 3/4 of bottle 30-45 minutes before workout. Drink remaining 1/4 of bottle during workout. Best results obtained when taken on empty stomach. Take on training days.”
Bad experience aside, I’m glad I got to try out Fast Twitch before deciding whether or not to purchase it. Pre-workout supplements tend to work differently for different people. For instance, my body responds the best to Jack3d. Fast Twitch has a 7.7 rating on Bodybuilding.com, so obviously some people enjoy it.
At 24.99 for a 2.04 lb tub with 40 servings, this might be a good deal for some people.
